Leveled reading list
This summer, a great way to keep your child's reading skills sharp this summer (and all year long) is to set aside books they are interested in as well as books that challenge them. The following website: http://home.comcast.net/~ngiansante/index.html is an excellent source for finding books that are on or above your child's reading level. Their most recent reading level is listed on the third quarter report card. Questions? Feel free to send a note to school, send a text or give me a call.

Handwriting without tears
Our district uses the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Our kids really enjoy engaging in it. Consider purchasing the Handwriting Without Tears app: http://www.hwtears.com/sites/default/lpform/mttc2012form.php?pc=website
Or, purchase other materials you can use at home: http://www.hwtears.com/hwt.
These will be great tools to use over the summer!
In the meantime, remind your child to use the "flip the pencil" trick each time they sit down to do their homework so they write with the proper grip!

Keep your reading skills sharp!
One of the most important things kids can do to keep their reading skills sharp is to read to themselves and read with someone each week. After reading each week, remember to ask these 5 questions:
1. What is the setting of the story?
2. Who were the main characters?
3. What was the problem in the story?
4. What was the solution in the story?
5. How was the problem solved?
You can buy materials that help you monitor your child's comprehension. For example, you can purchase a comprehension wheel from Kaplan at http://www.kaplanco.com/store/trans/productDetailForm.asp?CatID=5%7CLT1075%7C0&PID=91547
