we celebrate dr. martin luther king, jr
Monday, January 21st was "MLK Day". We read a "big" book called "Tengo un Sueno", which means "I Have a Dream". Dr. Connell read the book to our class in English in the morning. The Spanish Club from Roxbury High School read the book to our class in Spanish in the afternoon. The advisor of the Spanish Club, Mrs. Kerry also encouraged the students to learn a second language if they didn't know one already and told them how to pronounce each of their names in Spanish. It was great!
We will continue to talk about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this week and the lessons he fought so hard for us to learn. As we do so, we will write a composition called "If You Really Want to See Me Look on the Inside", where we will describe at least three things that make us great. Look for the display in the hallway the next time you visit our school!

A big "thank you" to Matthew who brought in a map from a family vacation and shared it with the class. Matthew earned 2 Koala Coins :-)
We are studying maps as part of our Social Studies curriculum by using compass skills to identify and follow directions for north, south, east and west.
Kids: test your compass skills by playing the quick Compass Skills game. Print the certificate after you get all of the answers right and bring it to school to earn 2 Koala Coins!
We are also learning to read symbols and keys that are on a map.
Kids: bring a map you've used at an amusement park, store, outdoor park, etc. and share how it helped you find your way around. Then, you'll earn 2 Koala Coins!
